Bearing Witness to an Encampment Eviction

Cambridge Encampment Eviction Story Recap 1On Nov. 4, 2025, SDC was a third-party observer as an encampment was cleared from private property in Cambridge. Among those being evicted were three women in their 60s.

We're grateful that concerned community members and volunteers from Unsheltered Campaign were present to offer mutual aid and support, even as questions lingered about where the women would land in the coming days, considering both shelters in the city were already at capacity.

Keep reading for a recap of the coverage in the Cambridge Times, and what you can do to help...

We appreciate that Keegan Kozolanka from Cambridge Today attended the site to document the eviction. As Keegan noted in his article, "multiple court rulings have found evicting people from encampments when there is insufficient shelter space is a violation of human rights."

How You Can Help

  • Share this story. Help spread awareness of how vulnerable the people living in encampments already are, and how an eviction creates even more danger and risk.
  • Support calls for pausing evictions and establishing safe tenting zones so that people living in encampments can be spared the constant threat of eviction, while the system works to expand the housing and shelter alternatives it has to offer.

Brussé believed if those impacted move elsewhere, ‘I’ll be out next week visiting them to deal with the next eviction.’”
