SDC is honoured to embark on a new project of bringing together Waterloo Region's diverse community hubs to envision how they can amplify each other's impact through shared advocacy, collective leadership, and intentional resource-sharing.
UPDATE: The project recruited a part-time Community Developer, Latasha Wilson in October 2025 to support this work. Keep reading for more on the project's goals and guiding values.
At the heart of this initiative is our humble belief that SDC's Civic Hub is only one of many vital hubs currently operating in the community, alongside others like Willow River Centre, Adventure4Change, Waterloo Region Community Garden Network, KW Community Coop Kitchen and Women of Dignity International (WODI).
This work is also an extension of our commitment to land back and reconciliation, focusing on mobilizing grassroots groups to reassert Land Back Camp's leadership for an Indigenous Community Space at the Charles Street Terminal development.
Our hope is to weave the streams of activities of diverse hubs and Indigenous rights to the land and autonomy in relationships with Waterloo Region communities, into a joint visioning adventure early in 2026. We will be able to map the path forward with care and mutual respect towards shared goals for autonomous community organizing and advocacy.
We're grateful to the funding partner, the Waterloo Region Community Foundation, for supporting and funding this work.
